The mission of CIS is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS believes every child deserves a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult, a safe place to learn and grow, a healthy start and a healthy future, a marketable skill to use upon graduation and a chance to give back to peers and the community. Aligned with the mission statement and five basics, CIS currently offers five core service areas that include Action for Success Dropout Prevention Program, 21st Century Community Learning Center After School Programs, Teen Court and Peer Court, Parenting Education Program, and the CIS School Volunteer and Support Program. Educating the community about the needs of the schools and Brunswick County children are also vital parts of their work. Community involvement is essential to the success of these programs and the success of children in Brunswick County. CIS involves volunteers in all aspects of their work, offering a variety of volunteer opportunities to you. You can teach game rules for sports; teach a child to play a musical instrument; teach arts like pottery or dance; donate board games or craft supplies; provide administrative assistance in the office; help at the thrift shops; read a story; sing a song; mentor a student; donate school supplies; serve on a committee; develop a newsletter; write an article; donate to the thrift shops; donate financially and more.
