Dr. Maria Montessori, the founder of this teaching method, believed that the goal of early childhood education should not be to fill the child with facts from a pre-selected course of studies, but rather to cultivate his or her own natural desire to learn. In the Montessori classroom this objective is approached in two ways: First, by allowing children to experience the excitement of learning by their own choice rather than being forced. Second, by helping children to perfect their own natural tools for learning so that their abilities will be at a maximum level in future learning situations. To fulfill a child’s thirst for learning, L & L Montessori School is equipped with countless hands-on educational activities carefully selected by the teaching staff. The curriculum, for preschool children through 8th grade, offers a well rounded program in which children can discover learning at their own individual rate. Children are encouraged through specific tasks to develop a sense of order, coordination, concentration and independence. The children also have free time during which they may choose the Montessori materials they wish to explore. The program includes one-on-one instruction along with small and large group activities which include mathematics, practical life, sensory skills, language, zoology, botany, geology, history, geography, music, singing, arts and crafts, dance, Spanish and sign language. L&L Montessori School celebrates its 28th year of operation in 2018.
