Dosher Memorial Hospital is the only independent critical access hospital in North Carolina. It has 25 acute-care, inpatient beds. Established in 1930, this public, community hospital serves south Brunswick County, attracting patients from Southport, Oak Island, Caswell Beach, St. James, Boiling Spring Lakes, Bolivia, Bald Head Island, Supply and surrounding areas.
Dosher services include a 24-hour emergency department, inpatient and outpatient surgeries and procedures, Wound Care Center, cardiopulmonary/respiratory therapy, diabetes and nutritional education, diagnostic imaging, including a new 3D mammography unit, laboratory services, lymphedema management, physical and occupational therapies, speech therapy, and a sleep lab. The hospital has earned seven awards for clinical excellence in the past two years.
Dosher also operates 10 primary care and other clinics across Brunswick County, each of which is accepting new patients. The newest of these is Dosher Wellness Center, 3009 Medical Plaza Lane, Southport. It is home to the family medicine practice of Dr. Kristos Vaughan, Dr. Leigh Vaughan, and Nurse Practitioner Sally Delmastro; Cardiac Rehabilitation; satellite physical therapy and x-ray services; and an indoor walking track for cardiac rehab and physical therapy patients.
