Friends of the Oak Island Lighthouse
1100 Caswell Beach Rd.
Caswell Beach, NC 28465

The Oak Island Lighthouse was gifted to the Town of Caswell Beach by the federal government as part of the land to parks program in 2004. The town created Friends of the Oak Island Lighthouse (FOIL) to preserve the lighthouse and surrounding grounds, conduct tours, provide informational signage and be financially self-sufficient. In order to execute the duties assigned by the town, FOIL recruits volunteers. More information about the lighthouse may be found on the website.

Volunteers are needed to sell merchandise or conduct lighthouse tours either to the second level (Open House tours) or to the top balcony (Top tours). Training is provided for all volunteer positions and a volunteer is always paired with at least one other volunteer (you are never on duty by yourself).

Open House tours (just 12 steps up) are conducted every Wednesday and Saturday from 10 AM until 2 PM during the summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) with 2, two hour shifts. Merchandise volunteers are needed for the Wednesday and Saturday times as well. Tours to the top of the lighthouse (up 131 metal steps) are conducted year round and require 2 to 4 volunteers per tour. All tour scheduling and volunteer coordination are done through email at: oakislandlighthouse@gmail.com.

In addition, FOIL is always looking for volunteers to assist with the maintenance and general operation of the lighthouse, as well as, special projects such as sign creation, fundraising, marketing and grant writing.
