The nonprofit Brunswick Concert Band is composed of volunteers from Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties who have been playing together since the mid 1980s. No auditions are required, and volunteers who have at least a high-school skill level are invited to join, with the stipulation that members have their own instruments. The band plays a variety of music styles from jazz to light classical, marches and show tunes. The Brunswick Big Band is made up of members of the concert band and plays the swinging tunes of the 1940s. The Brunswick Concert Band performs two formal concerts during the Winter Season and several formal and outdoor concerts during the Spring Season and Summer Season. Members are encouraged, but not required, to play for all three sessions. The Brunswick Big Band plays throughout the year for community events. Brunswick Concert Band is a member of the Association of Concert Bands. Weekly rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 PM in the band room at South Brunswick High School.
