The Oak Island Art Guild meets the second Friday of each month at the Oak Island Recreation Center. After each meeting experienced artists lead free workshops in a relaxed atmosphere and open to the public. Workshop topics include oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, pen-and-ink, colored pencil, clay, collage, tile painting, calligraphy, portraits, abstracts and more. The Art Guild sponsors the very successful Labor Day Arts and Crafts Festival in Oak Island. Annually, the second weekend of November, in cooperation with the Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department, the Oak Island Art Guild co-sponsors the Arts By The Shore event, a three-day judged arts and crafts show held at the Oak Island Recreation Center. The guild gives a $1,000 scholarship each year to a deserving Brunswick County Senior who is planning to pursue art education in college and gives a donation to art teachers in the county for art supplies, rotating schools each year.
