April 22, 2017  The festivities start on Friday, April 21st from 5pm-8:30pm at Packet Pickup and Onsite Registration. This is a fun and enjoyable event for all fitness levels. The run courses showcase the best scenery on the North Carolina Coast — with salt marshes, the Atlantic Ocean, beautiful beaches, foot bridges and a lighthouse as a cheerleader. Pair the breathtaking scenery with the Parrot Head theme and you have an event worthy of taking a weekend trip with your friends. There will be music and fellowship with food and drink available for sale. It continues with the Phlock After Run Celebration on Saturday, at Middleton Park Extension. Participants will be given drink token(s) and be eligible to participate in the many contests – grass skirt hula, hula hoop, Mr. Longitude, Miss Latitude and Costume Contest with cash prizes sponsored by Moffitt Builders. In keeping with our Parrot Head theme, Half Marathon runners will receive a Margarita glass on a lanyard as your finisher award. The overall and age group awards are prints by renowned coastal artist Ricky Evans of The Ricky Evans Gallery in Southport. So, come dressed as an island girl, pirate, parrot or any Jimmy Buffett look you choose and join in the fun. Half Marathon begins at 8am, 10k at 8:10am, 5k at 8:30am and 1 Mile at 8:35am. This is an event of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce and is sponsored by Dosher Memorial Hospital. Check the run website for additional details and link to register.
