The Bald Head Island Conservancy runs summer camps weekdays June through August for three age groups. Budding Naturalist Camp and the Junior Scientist Camps are aimed at preparing children for service as stewards of our fragile environment. Participants can register for 1 day of camp or a whole week. Budding Naturalist Camp is suitable for children age 4 to 6. Activities include catching bugs, reading books, holding snakes, and making eco-friendly crafts. Campers spend as much time in the wild as possible. This camp takes place weekdays during the summer months from 9 AM until 12 PM. Junior Scientist Camp for ages 7 to 10 combines outdoor activities such as kayaking, nature hikes, crabbing, cast netting, and shell collecting with fun hands on curriculum. Children will enjoy learning about the unique animals and ecosystems of Bald Head Island. Junior Scientist Camp for ages 11 to 14 will offer a morning and afternoon session. Activities include kayaking, crabbing, cast netting, maritime forest exploration, and assisting the BHIC Conservation Department.
